CNN – Reports, Cellulite is a Fact of Life for Most Women

Monday, September 21st, 2009

CNN – Reports on the problems with cellulite. Many women suffer from the unsightly look of cellulite. According to researchers, cellulite has nothing to do with how fat or thin a woman may be, they are all susceptible to having cellulite.

Cellulite occurs after the skin loses it’s elasticity and large fat cells form and create bulges and dimples. As many as 90% of women have cellulite, however, there are a few things a woman can do to limit or decrease the appearance of cellulite. Aside from exercise there are several medical procedures designed to reduce or remove cellulite, like laser skin tightening and deep massage therapy.

Dr. Park & Dr. Sorosky

Facing cancer can be a challenging and frightening experience. However, the journey towards restoring one’s body to wholeness can be very rewarding. The good news is that there are options immediately available to reconstruct areas of the body that have undergone cancer resection.

As a specialist in breast cancer reconstruction, Edward H. Park, M.D. is able to offer patients choices in restoring one’s breast. Working with a multidisciplinary team involving the oncologic surgeon, oncologist, and radiologist, Dr. Park is an integral part of the cancer team at San Antonio Community Hospital. It is important to know that more women are undergoing immediate breast reconstruction that can offer restoration of the breast without undergoing the physical and emotional absence after a mastectomy. “The nice thing is that patients have choices, and they can undergo curative surgery and/or medical treatment along with their breast reconstruction all at the same time,” states Dr. Park. As one patient aptly put it, “Remember that women have the right to choose.”

Additionally, the same options are available with skin cancer reconstruction. Robert H. Sorosky, M.D. is Dr. Park’s partner and has worked closely with dermatologists and Moh’s surgeons in the community. Dr. Sorosky claims, “It is important to have a strong team of surgeons that can work closely with each other to provide the best reconstructive options to our patients.”

Both Dr. Park and Dr. Sorosky feel that reconstructive surgery is valuable to make the patient feel whole again, both physically and emotionally. Furthermore, it is just as important to attain a fine cosmetic result to restore one’s self-image. Reconstructive surgery is a bridge towards a new chapter in which patients can feel renewed with their transformation into a survivor. The surgical team concludes, “Our goal is to restore form and function with an outstanding cosmetic result in order to give patients a real sense of confidence.”

What Are The Top Surgical Anti-Aging Cosmetic Surgeries?

Monday, August 31st, 2009

Over the years plastic surgery technology has evolved tremendously to help someone look and feel younger.

Many of these new technologies are less invasive and require less recovery time than before.

Here’s a look at a couple of the more popular anti-aging surgical techniques.

Endoscopic Brow Lift

forehead4BA brow lift is commonly requested to remove or improve the creases that stretch across the forehead and between the eyebrows – normally referred to as frown lines.  This procedure utilizes fiber-optic technology allowing the surgeon to perform this surgery without the need for large incisions.  An endoscope helps eliminate bruising, scarring, infection and eases in recovery post-operatively.

  • Over time the brow may change as a result of aging
  • Lifting the brow may remove excessive skin and fullness from the upper eyelids
  • It may also improve the symmetry of the eyebrows
  • Change the overall shape of the eyebrows
  • Helps remove wrinkles from off the brow

Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

eyelids10BEyelid surgery is becoming one of the most requested surgeries today.  This procedure removes the loose skin (baggy eyes) that obscures the natural fold of the upper eyelids.

There are several surgical techniques for eyelid lifts:

Transcutaneous Eyelid Blepharoplasty – uses incision that goes through the crease of the upper eyelid skin.  Removing the excessive skin, muscle and fat will help give the eyes a more pleasing result.

Transconjunctival Eyelid Blepharoplasty – uses an incision in the inside of the eyelid where the fatty tissue is then removed.  No skin incision is made with the technique so consequently if there is excessive eyelid skin this would not be the best blepharoplasty of choice.

Transcutaneous Lower Eyelid Fat Lipolysis technique – lipolysis has gained popularity in recent years by injecting fat dissolving materials or inserting a electrolyzed specialized needle through the skin into the pocket of fat – dissolving it.

Facelift (Rhtidectomy)

facelift14BA facelift surgery is a procedure where a person receives the most visible surgical results.  Loose facial and neck skin are stretched or removed to produce a new youthful appearance.

For additional information about any of these procedures both Dr. Sorosky and Dr. Park would be happy to consult with you.

Who’s Getting Facelifts?

Sunday, August 23rd, 2009

The idea that facelifts are for really old people is no longer the case.  People who’s skin has begun to droop and sag but who still have decent skin elasticity and good facial bone structure are opting to undergo minor facelift procedures.  About 90% of facelift patients are primarily women.  Regardless of the disproportionate differences of male to female facelift patients, the facelift is still one of the more popular cosmetic plastic surgery procedures for both sexes.

Recent studies have shown the age percentages of people having facelifts are the following:

  • 1% for patients under the age of 35
  • 29% for patients between the ages of 35 through 50
  • 53% for patients between the ages of 51 through 64
  • 17% for patients 65 and older

There are things to consider before you have a facelift procedure.

It is important to know that people with good skin elasticity usually have better results than those that don’t.  While the natural tendency is for people to lose their skin elasticity as they age, there are many factors that can contribute to it’s acceleration, including;  smoking, drinking excessively and extreme exposures to the natural elements like sun and wind over the course of one’s life.

It is also important that a person who desires to have a facelift is in good health.  This will ensure they heal faster and have an easier time during their recovery.

A facelift can help you return to a more youthful appearance and it can also help you improve your self-confidence.

The draw back is that a facelift patient should have realistic expectations about their surgical outcomes before they undergo any surgery.

At Face & Body Cosmetic Surgery, Dr. Sorosky and Dr. Park can help you make an informed decision on whether a facelift would be best for you.  Dr. Sorosky and Dr. Park have over 30 years combined experience with the latest facelift procedures and have perfected the Natural Uplift - facelift.  You can view many of their results by clicking on the following thumbnail.

Post-Bariatric Cosmetic Plastic Surgery – Inland Empire

Tuesday, March 10th, 2009

Dr. Park recently wrote an article for the March 2009 issue of Rancho Specialty Hospital – Weight Option News.

Congratulations and welcome to your renewed life! This is a long and arduous journey that you have undertaken, and now is the time to reap your rewards. You are now at a point where you are losing weight, or you have reached your final weight goal. Your health and energy has improved, and you are now ready to restore your body image. Part of losing weight is regaining your confidence and self-esteem, and a lot of this relies on your own body image. My goal as a plastic and reconstructive surgeon is to help you achieve this by performing surgery that will remove all of the excess skin on your body and re-contouring your new body. This is the next step in completing your renewed image. The first step in the process is to make sure that you are first and foremost a healthy candidate. You should also be at a stable goal weight for at least 3 months. Once these goals are achieved, we can plan to address the various areas of your body. As a result of weight loss, you will have lost fat in all areas of the body, including your face, and there are areas of overhanging skin. In the initial consultation, I will take a complete approach and evaluate all areas from head to toe.

These areas include the face/neck, arms, breasts/chest, abdomen, inner and outer thighs, and the back/buttocks. Some people will not need all of these areas addressed, whereas others will have a complete makeover. The safest approach is to stage the surgeries. In this manner, you and I will plan which areas to address, and I will generally perform two to three areas of surgery at one time. For example, I will commonly perform a breast lift with implants and combine this with an abdominoplasty in stage I. After 2 to 3 months is allowed for you to recover, we can then proceed with stage II. Sometimes a third stage is necessary to complete the body contouring. The whole process of post-weight reduction surgery can be completed in 3 to 6 months. Generally, recovery is not that painful, and as an example, I will encourage you to walk with assistance the very next day. All in all, I would like to say that this will be one of the most gratifying chapters of your life. You have worked so hard at losing your weight; you deserve to reward yourself by renewing your body.

What’s Hot? – Natural Facelifts. What’s Not? – Tight Facelifts.

Thursday, October 30th, 2008

Recently an article in New York Magazine called a more natural-looking rejuvenation a new beauty aesthetic and dubbed it the “new new face.” Facial skin pulled tight over the skull is over. Replacing it with a more plumper, softer face is what’s hot now. This is not unlike a stylish older sofa that looks almost new if only you keep the cushions fluffed.

Using a combination of new techniques and technologies, patients can have a newly restored face that takes years off the aging process. With the combination of facial fillers such as Juvederm, Restylane and Radiesse and in combination with Botox injections and non-surgical laser treatments a patient can expect to receive exceptional results.

To lean more about these procedures contact Dr. Robert Sorosky and Dr. Edward Park today at the Face & Body Cosmetic Surgery Center. They are conveniently located in the heart of the Inland Empire in Upland, California.

Mommy Makovers in the Inland Empire

Thursday, November 1st, 2007

Many women have dedicated their lives to raising their beloved children and devoting themselves to their family. Virtually all of your attention is focused on work, family duties, and outside activities. As a result, you have neglected yourself and placed yourself at the bottom of your priorities.

After bearing children, it is extremely difficult to regain your pre-pregnant figure. Some of the post-pregnant effects are stretch marks on the abdomen, laxity of the stomach muscles, or even loose hanging skin below the belly-button. Your small-framed figure still exists, but is disguised underneath the excess skin and fatty tissue. Likewise, the breasts over time have sagged and lost volume after having children and breastfeeding. Sometimes there are saddlebags around the thighs, and even bags under your eyes that may make you appear tired.

After working so hard on your career and your family, it’s time to give yourself the confidence and respect you deserve. You deserve to match your outward appearance with the youthful, attractive person you are deep down inside. The most common procedures performed on mothers after having children are breast lifts (mastopexy) with or without implants and tummy tucks (abdominoplasty). Often times, these two procedures are combined so as to undergo one recovery and one anesthesia. Dr. Park has performed many of these combined procedures, and if the breast only needs to be augmented (with the combined approach), he can place the implants through the abdominoplasty wound to avoid any scars on the breast. Usually daily activity can be resumed after recovering for approximately 2 weeks, but full recovery may take up to 4 to 6 weeks.

The result of a combined breast lift/augmentation and tummy tuck is an overall rejuvenation of the body rewarding the modern woman. Restoring the breast shape via an uplift will fill out clothing better, while the tummy tuck will often result in a decrease in multiple dress sizes. Mothers reward yourself and give yourself the attention and confidence that you rightfully derserve.
