Many people have problems with unwanted fat deposits that remain despite exercise and diet. Body contouring is not a treatment for obesity, but rather for contouring areas of the body by suctioning the fat deposits.

The ideal patient is in reasonably good physical condition, having only localized areas of unwanted fat. The most common areas treated are the abdomen, thighs, hips and knees.

Tumescent liposuction is a unique method of first flooding the fatty tissues with a large volume of diluted anesthetic solution and then suctioning the softened liquefied fatty tissue. This new technique allows for less bleeding, bruising and postoperative pain.

Incisions are so small that sutures are rarely necessary. Recovery is several days to a week - complications are very unusual. Improvement is usually attained but may not be as drastic as the patient expects.

Occasionally, when skin is loose, a patient can have liposuction with a mini tummy tuck. This involves an incision that is hidden and recovery time is the same as liposuction -- about 7-10 days.
