A recent study published by Boston University School of Medicine has shown that certain lasers systems are better than others for the treatment of spider veins called telangiectasias. This study which appears in the recent issue of Laser in Surgery and Medicine highlights the efficacy of laser systems using wavelengths of 940nm.
Spider veins or telangiectasias is a condition where the blood vessles in the outer layers of the skin become damaged and clearly visible as a result of excessive sun exposure or aging. This condition is also common to many diseases like rosacea, acne, scleroderma, birthmarks as well as some other heredity disorders like xeroderma pigmentosus.
The study showed that patients who underwent treatments using 940nm wavelength lasers endured less pain as well. The longer wavelength laser was superior by penetrating into deep blood vessles. It also helped reduce melanin absorption so consequently there was less risk of any post-inflammatory changes or scarring to the skin.
Face and Body Cosmetic Surgery utilizes the latest in laser technology using the MIXto Laser System. The MIXto laser uses a CO2 laser that is fractionalized to control exposure.
