With the insurgence of asia’s economic growth, more and more asians are seeking to have elective plastic surgeries. This is happening in large numbers in South Korea. Newly rich globally competitive mainland Chinese are traveling in large numbers to South Korea to have their surgery performed. This is a cultural phenomena where many asians are seeking more westernized looks.
A globalizing effect is taking place with the perception that a pretty face is a western face which would give someone a competitive advantage in life.
According to some sociology experts, this phenomena is having a profound impact on many asian cultures with hints of self-racial hatred. This cultural imperialism is perpetuating the idea that westernize looks is the key to success. However, this concerns many plastic surgeons who find that this trend is being forced upon children at an alarming rate. Parents are forcing their children to have plastic surgery before their teens in hopes that they will have a better chance at succeeding in life.
