A recent study suggests that having too much Botox, injected at the same time, can harm relationships. This is a result of the effects Botox Cosmetic has on normal facial expressions. The problem comes with the ability for people to show their real emotions, by their facial expressions, and for others to be able to interpret them.
Dr. David Havas, a psychologist at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, conducted a study in which his team monitored the speed and efficiency of over fourty volunteers attempting to decipher statements that involved an emotional message both before and after receiving large doses of Botox injections.
The observations concluded that the volunteers took a lot longer to understand the negative meanings of unpleasant scenarios.
Dr. Havas states, excessive “blocking facial expression diminishes the experience of emotion. Our faces are normally alive with activity, which contributes to our understanding of each other, and there is a strong link between our facial expression and our ability to comprehend the meaning of language.”
“If people seem slow in reacting to what they are being told, it is likely to be interpreted as a lack of sympathy or interest.”
This study will soon be published in the journal Psychological Science.
Like any cosmetic procedure, moderation needs to be addressed. Botox, if used correctly, can effectively diminish wrinkles without hindering a person’s facial expressions. Always seek out a qualified medical professional who is well trained in the use of Botox Cosmetic.
