Men with enlarged breast often feel very insecure about their bodies and especially when not wearing a shirt in public. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, approximately 1/2 of all men have excess localized fat and or excess gland tissue on their breast.
Research has been unable to locate the exact triggers or causes of enlarged male breasts, however, one study in Turkey reported that phthalates may be to blame for enlarged breasts in pubescent boys. Phthalates are used in the production of some plastics and are easily released into the environment. They are a subject of concern as they effect the environment in ways yet unknown to man.
Currently, there are several surgical procedures available to men who have enlarged breast and wish to reduce the size of their breasts, this includes, liposuction and glandular tissue abatement. Both procedures have proven effective in male breast reduction, however, removal of the breast gland has proven to be the most effective overall.
