Breast augmentation is a cosmetic surgery that uses implants to increase or restore breast volume. It can change the size, shape, projection, and upper fullness of your breasts, and help balance your breasts with the rest of your body. It can also improve some differences between your breasts.
Breast implants don’t fix every concern. If you have loose skin or your nipples sit low, adding volume alone might not give you the shape you want. In these cases, a breast lift may be a better option or can be combined with augmentation.

People choose breast augmentation for different reasons. You may have naturally smaller breasts, lose fullness after pregnancy or breastfeeding, notice changes after weight loss, or simply want more volume and projection. Breast augmentation adds volume. A breast lift reshapes and raises the breast by removing excess skin and repositioning the tissue and nipple. If your main concern is loss of fullness and your nipples are in a good position, implants may be all you need. If you have sagging breasts, stretched skin, or nipples that sit low, you may need a lift. Some people benefit from both procedures if they want more volume and a higher breast shape.
This difference is important because using a larger implant to make up for loose skin doesn’t always give better results. Your surgeon can show you what an implant can do and whether adding a lift would help.
Face N Body offers both saline and silicone breast implants, with choices from Motiva, Allergan, and Mentor. Each type has different fill material, size, feel, and shape, so there is more to consider than just saline or silicone.
Silicone implants come prefilled with a cohesive silicone gel. Many people like how they feel, especially if they have less natural breast tissue to cover the implant. Silicone implants may also show less rippling than saline implants, especially in thinner patients. A silicone breast implant rupture may not be obvious from appearance alone, which is why long-term monitoring is part of implant care.
Saline implants have a silicone shell that is filled with sterile salt water during surgery. The amount can be adjusted, which can help if your breasts are different sizes. If a saline implant breaks, it usually deflates, and your body absorbs the saline. Saline implants can feel firmer or show more rippling if you have less tissue covering them.
There is no single best option. Your age, body, breast tissue, and the feel and shape you want all help decide which implant is right for you.
Motiva SmoothSilk Round and SmoothSilk Round Ergonomix are silicone gel-filled breast implants that received FDA approval in 2024 for primary and revision breast augmentation in women age 22 and older. Face N Body offers Motiva as one of several implant options, so you aren’t limited to just one type.
SmoothSilk Round implants can give your breasts a rounder shape and more fullness at the top, depending on the size and profile you choose.
Ergonomix implants are made to change shape with your body position. They look rounder when you lie down and more sloped when you stand up, offering a softer look and feel.
Motiva implants use the SmoothSilk surface, cohesive silicone gel, and come in many sizes and shapes. Like all implants, they have possible risks and need proper long-term care.
Finding Your Proportion
Cup size isn’t a reliable way to pick an implant. Bra sizes vary, and the same implant can look different on people with different chest sizes and natural breast tissue. Dr. Park or Dr. Cheah will consider your breast width, chest wall shape, existing tissue, skin elasticity, breast base diameter, natural asymmetry, desired projection, and how much upper-breast fullness you prefer. Implant volume is important, but width and profile can have just as much influence on the final shape.
If these choices seem overwhelming, your consultation is the time to sort them out. Your surgeon will help narrow down the options and show you how different implants might look on your body before you decide.
Breast implants can be placed above your chest muscles or under part of the muscle, depending on your surgical plan. Where the implant goes affects how much tissue covers it, how it looks, moves, heals, and the final breast shape. There is no one position that works for everyone. Your breast tissue, implant size, chest shape, activity level, and any other procedures all play a role in the decision.
Where Are the Incisions Made?
Face N Body uses two types of incisions for breast augmentation: inframammary and periareolar. An inframammary incision is made in the crease under your breast, giving direct access to the implant pocket. A periareolar incision is made along part of the edge of the areola. Your surgeon will suggest the best incision for you based on your body, implant choice, placement, and any other breast reshaping you may need.
Some people benefit from more than just an implant. Face N Body may use internal support or fat grafting to improve tissue quality or fine-tune your breast shape.
If you have thin or stretched tissue, past implant movement, or need extra support, you may be a candidate for internal support materials. Strattice is a biologically derived tissue matrix that can reinforce weakened breast tissue and support the implant pocket. GalaFLEX is a bioabsorbable P4HB scaffold that provides temporary support while the patient’s own tissue develops additional reinforcement.
Not everyone needs an internal bra. It’s only used when your tissue or surgical plan would benefit from extra support.
Face N Body can also combine breast implants with fat grafting. Fat is taken from another part of your body with liposuction, then prepared and added to certain areas of your breast. The implant gives most of the added volume, while the transferred fat can soften the edges, improve coverage, or help even out small differences in breast shape.
Good candidates are usually healthy, have fully developed breasts, and realistic expectations about what surgery can do. You might want more volume, have lost fullness after pregnancy or breastfeeding, notice unevenness, or just want a different breast shape.
Breast augmentation should fit your current stage of life. Surgery is usually planned when you aren’t pregnant or breastfeeding, and future pregnancy or major weight changes can change your breasts later. It’s also important to know that breast implants are medical devices, not permanent parts of your body. You may need to have them removed, replaced, or revised in the future due to complications, changes in your breast tissue, or your own preferences.
After you and your surgeon choose the implant, placement, and incision, your procedure is planned around those choices. Any need for a breast lift, internal support, or fat grafting is also decided before surgery.
Breast augmentation surgery is performed in Face N Body’s private, AAAHC-accredited on-site surgery center in Upland. The surgeon creates the planned incision and implant pocket, places the implant, and checks breast shape and symmetry before closing the incisions. Additional support or fat grafting is performed when included in the plan. After surgery, you will recover with the surgical team before going home. You will get instructions for caring for your incisions, activity limits, support garments, medications, and follow-up visits.
Dr. Cheah uses a Rapid Recovery Breast Augmentation method that focuses on precise implant placement, gentle surgical techniques, and reducing unnecessary tissue trauma. The goal is to make early recovery easier while still allowing your breast tissue and implant pocket to heal properly.
Rapid recovery doesn’t mean skipping normal precautions. You’ll still need to avoid lifting, strenuous exercise, and some activities while you heal. The size and placement of your implant, and any other procedures, can also affect how long recovery takes.
The First Few Weeks
You may feel sore, swollen, tight, or have pressure for the first few days. Face N Body notes that many people return to light activity in about three to five days. You will wear a supportive surgical bra and start light walking, but avoid heavy lifting and strenuous exercise. At first, your implants may sit higher or feel firmer than you expect. As swelling goes down and your breast tissue relaxes, the implants will settle into place and your breasts will become softer.
You will see more volume right away, but your final breast shape takes time to develop. Face N Body notes that results usually become clearer around six to eight weeks, but your implant position, breast softness, and scars can keep improving after that.
Breast implants don’t have a set expiration date, but they aren’t meant to last a lifetime. Some people keep their implants for many years without another surgery, while others need earlier surgery because of rupture, hardening, movement, changes in the breast, or wanting a different size or shape. A silicone breast implant can sometimes rupture without clear symptoms, so regular imaging and follow-up are important.
Possible complications include bleeding, infection, changes in nipple or breast feeling, scarring, pain, unevenness, implant movement, visible rippling, hardening, and implant rupture or deflation. Some of these may need more surgery.
Breast implants are also linked to rare implant-related cancers, like BIA-ALCL, which happens more often with textured implants. There are also reports of symptoms called breast implant illness. These symptoms are still being studied, and their cause is not fully understood.

Motiva is one of several silicone implant options offered at Face N Body. Its Round and Ergonomix designs use different gel characteristics and produce different shapes and movement. The appropriate implant depends on your tissue, anatomy, desired shape, and preferences.
They can be positioned above the chest muscle or beneath part of it. Tissue thickness, implant size, anatomy, and the desired result all influence placement.
Not everyone does. An implant may be enough when the main concern is volume loss and the breast and nipple remain in a good position. Significant sagging or a low nipple position may require a breast lift.
